Delta Skymiles

After some research and hours on the phone with Delta, for my own sake and for anyone else who it may concern, here is some information to clarify the 2021-2022 confusion. Not that this does not apply to those with a Delta associated credit card.

Let's start with the basics...

Key things to note

  • MQMs are different than miles. MQMs are used only to determine Medallion Status and are earned based on distance flown and fare class. Miles, which are earned when you fly based on ticket price and SkyMiles Status, are used for Award Travel and other redemptions

  • MQMs, MQSs and MQDs are earned by the Member who is flying (whose name and SkyMiles number are listed on the ticket) regardless of who booked or paid for the flight.

  • Your Medallion Qualifiers will not reset until January 31st, 2022.

  • You only receive Medallion Qualifiers once you have taken the flight. THEREFORE is you receive e-credit for a flight you have not taken, you have no earned any qualifiers yet.

  • If you do not have any kind of Medallion status (you are not at least Silver), you do not qualify for the "2022 Medallion® Status Accelerators"

Is status worth it?

In general, higher status means (often depending on the level):

  • Higher likelihood of being upgraded

  • Free checked bags

  • More miles received when you spend on a qualified flight
